Taking Back Sunday – New Again New Again

Taking Back Sunday – New Again

If you’ve been watching any television at all lately, chances are good you’ve seen or at least heard Taking Back Sunday.  These guys seem to be making all the right moves; they’ve been on The Tonight Show and Jimmy Kimmel, Live!, provided a song for Degrassi: The Next Generation, have three of their songs ready for Rock Band and feature a classic car with the top down on their new album cover.

The record was released today on CD, with a 2-LP set due out June 16.  Mastered by Ted Jensen at Sterling, the CD is somewhat compressed, but not too harsh on the high end, so I am hoping that the double LP set will remedy the moderate compression present here.

New Again is the perfect title for the album, as Taking Back Sunday has made a major lineup change since their last record, with new member Matt Fazzi (Facing New York) taking over vocals for Fred Mascherino, now pursuing a solo career.  The band has a much more cohesive feel on this record, with the vocal harmonies and the playing much tighter.

New Again, rocks from start to finish and has tons more personality than what you’ve been hearing on the WB lately, and almost has a 90′s Brit Power Pop feel, perhaps with some early U2 mixed in for good measure. “Sink Into Me” is the single, but my favorite is “Cut Me Up Jenny.”  Just because.  If you are looking for a great summer road trip rock record, grab a copy of New Again; this is definitely a good disc to roll the windows down and crank up the volume.
